Dear Member,
On a beautiful late spring afternoon, twenty-five years ago, two young men graduated from the same high school. They were very much alike, these two young men. Both had been better than average students, both were personable and both - as young men are - were filled with ambitious dreams for the future.
Recently, these men returned to their old school for their 25th reunion.
They were still very much alike. Both were happily married. Both had three children. And both, it turned out, had gone to work for the same company after graduation - and were still there.
But there was a difference. One of the men was manager of a small department of that company. The other was its president.
Have you ever wondered, as I have, what makes this kind of difference in people's lives? It isn't a native intelligence or talent or dedication. It isn't that one person wants success and the other doesn't.
The difference lies in what each person knows and how he or she makes use of that knowledge. My personal story is testimony to this:
After leaving school I worked a few years with Dad on the farm before deciding oilfield diving was going to be the way I'd set myself up in life. So I sold everything I owned and travelled half-way round the world. But by the time I'd paid for the necessary training and supported myself through diving school all my savings had gone.
I found myself out of work, broke and stuck in Aberdeen, Scotland in the middle of winter. I didn't know it at the time, but not much diving work goes on in the North Sea during the winter months. It was cold, dark and depressing.
Unable to afford my airfare home, I got myself a job - in a local hydraulics shop. I found the work interesting and began studying everything about hydraulics I could get my hands on. And I've never stopped.
Now, less than 20 years later, I've written three books on the subject, am a sought after speaker and trainer, command consulting fees of $2,500+ per day and own homes on two continents.
I don't tell you this to brag. I have no need for that. I tell you this to illustrate the point:
Success is determined by what each person knows and how he or she makes use of that knowledge.
And that is why I am writing to you and to people like you about my NEW Advanced Hydraulics course. For this is the whole purpose of it: to give its readers knowledge-knowledge they can use for their own success.
You see, 'Advanced Hydraulic Control' is a unique publication. It's NOT a text book. And it's NOT a correspondence course. It's an interactive, computer-based learning system. That's choc full of knowledge you can absorb at your own pace, at your convenience, and in the comfort of your own home or office.
In Napoleon Hill's classic book Think and Grow Rich - based on his study of 504 men who achieved great success - Hill identified having 'specialized knowledge' as a key to success. To quote Hill:
"Successful men, in all callings, never stop acquiring specialized knowledge related to their major purpose, business or profession."
Because it's rare as hen's teeth. And getting harder to find. According to a recent report published by the International Fluid Power Society, less than 6 percent of high school seniors in the US plan to pursue engineering degrees. This is down 36 percent from ten years ago.
And 95 percent of all Mechanical Engineering graduates in the US have not been exposed to hydraulic actuation and control. A similar situation exists worldwide - at both degree and trade level.
If you DO have advanced hydraulics knowledge - which isn't common, you ARE respected and rewarded. I can think of many occasions over the years when I've been 'put to the test' over a complex hydraulics problem.
Where others have failed, the expectation is you will too. So think of the look on their faces as they lay the problem out in front of you... fully expecting you to stumble. And how quickly their faces change when you zero in on the issue.
Their doubt turns to respect. You're always welcome back. You're always sought after. And you're always handsomely rewarded.
During a seminar I presented last year, an experienced heavy equipment mechanic complained that the modern hydraulic equipment he works on is getting so complicated:
"You need a manual - just to read the machine manual."
Certainly, the rapid development of microprocessors and computer technology has increased the integration of electronics with hydraulics. 'Smart' hydraulic systems are becoming the norm rather than the exception.
So if you're a mechanic (or a mechanically-minded equipment owner) who works on modern mobile or industrial hydraulic equipment, Advanced Hydraulic Control will empower you to understand what you need to from the machine manual.
If you're a technician, Advanced Hydraulic Control will give you the know-how you need to understand and confidently tackle advanced hydraulic and electro-hydraulic control systems.
And if you're a design or application engineer, Advanced Hydraulic Control will equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to design, specify and model complex hydraulic and electro-hydraulic control systems.
In fact, it's not really a book at all. Advanced Hydraulic Control is unique because it includes computer simulation software for interactive learning. There's a saying about how we learn that goes something like this:
Tell me and I'll forget...
Show me and I may remember...
But involve me and I will understand.
The included software involves you - so you WILL understand. Here's just a few of the topics covered:
| Computer simulation of hydraulic systems | |
| Hydraulic system diagrams | |
| Modular valve architecture | |
| Advanced pressure control | |
| Advanced flow control | |
| Simulation of pressure control | |
| Simulation of flow control | |
| Multi-function valves | |
| Principles of proportional control | |
| Intensifiers | |
| Water hammer | |
| Critical time | |
| Synchronization of multiple actuators | |
| Simulation of synchronization | |
| Pump control architecture | |
| Variable pump control options | |
| Proportional pressure control | |
| Proportional flow control | |
| Proportional directional valves | |
| Servo valves | |
| Servo-proportional valves | |
| Simulation of valve dynamics | |
| Electronics | |
| Digital control | |
| Communication protocols | |
| Transducers | |
| Signal conditioners | |
| Closed-loop controllers | |
| Simulation of controllers | |
| Control system calibration and tuning | |
| System dynamics | |
| Dynamic response, stability and accuracy | |
| Linearization | |
| Selection of components | |
| Modelling and simulation of open and closed-loop electro-hydraulic systems |
Developing this program was a major undertaking. And I didn't do it on my own. In fact, if it wasn't for the driving force of my friend and colleague Dr Marian Tumarkin, Advanced Hydraulic Control would still be an ambitious idea.
Before 'defecting' to the West from the former Soviet Union, Marian was Associate Professor of Fluid Power and Fluid Mechanics at Kharkov University of Technology. Where, amongst other things, he was involved in research and development of electro-hydraulic systems for the Soviet Air Force. After arriving in the West in 1990, Dr Tumarkin quickly established himself as a popular University lecturer and respected consultant to government and private industry.
I have to tell you, Marian Tumarkin is the smartest guy I've met in the hydraulics business. And I wish someone of his calibre was accessible to me when I started out 20 years ago. A lucky few have been fortunate enough to be taught the trade by such an experienced professional and gifted teacher:
"Brendan, I had the pleasure of being one of Dr Tumarkin's students a couple of years ago at Swinburne University - what a great guy. He's a great teacher and a man who loves his Kalashnikov and a glass of vodka. The University lost a real source of expert knowledge when he left ..."
Lance Shiells
Former student - Swinburne University
Marian and I have spent 3,241 hours condensing our 63 years of combined hydraulics knowledge into this program. And then we spent another 476 hours integrating this knowledge with two pieces of state-of-the-art, simulation software:

| Advanced Hydraulic Control includes two, state-of-the-art simulation programs. | |
You're gonna learn a truckload of stuff. Here's a small taste of what's in store …
| A multi-function pressure control valve has been supplied in relief configuration but sequence configuration is needed. Your boss is pulling his hair out... until you tell him it's only a 5 minute job for you to change it - page 55 shows you how.
|
|
| A simple alternative to energy loss control … and you'll see the advantages for yourself when you create and simulate the model - page 72.
|
|
| A three-way flow control has a big advantage but also a major disadvantage over its two-way counterpart. Page 64 explains what they are.
|
|
| The significance of 'critical time'. When you should be concerned about it and how to check it - page 84.
|
|
| Which type of valve you should NEVER use to synchronize multiple actuators if the load distribution changes. Simulate the model and you'll see for yourself - page 77.
|
|
| Add remote pressure control to any load-sensing pump with this simple modification - page 104.
|
|
| Why a variable pump should NOT be used as the power source for a closed-loop, electro-hydraulic control system. The answer may surprise you - page 227.
|
|
| The correct locations for the proportional valve and accumulator in a closed-loop control system. Get this wrong and you'll be in a heap of trouble. See for yourself when you simulate the model - page 217.
|
|
| Working frequency is an important characteristic of a proportional valve. When you model and simulate valve dynamics, you'll understand why - page 128.
|
|
| The main component which determines the accuracy of a closed-loop control system. And it's not what you might think - page 132.
|
|
| The significance of cylinder natural frequency and how to check it - page 158
|
|
| An often overlooked step in control system calibration. Skip this and you could be pulling your hair out for days - page 154
|
|
| Any mystery surrounding your understanding of P, I, PI and PID controllers will vanish once you've modelled them on your computer - pages 196 - 202. |
Now that you've got a taste of what it covers, let me explain exactly what you get:
Only last month I was talking to an Inside Hydraulics newsletter member who has just finished an advanced hydraulics course at his local vocational college. So I asked him how much he spent on tuition fees. He told me it cost him $1,000, and he went on to explain how lucky he was to have a company vehicle - otherwise he'd have had significant travel expenses on top.
But that's not the end of it. I've done a lot of part-time study while working full-time. And it can be real stressful trying to attend lectures - or worse still, missing them, when you've got urgent work or family issues to deal with.
The foundation of our system is the course written materials - organized and presented in 'study guide' format. Revision questions with answers are also included for continuous self-assessment.
Which means you can progress at your own pace, studying at a time and place convenient for you. This removes the stress of trying to juggle work and family commitments. And you save yourself the time and expense of travelling to and from lectures.
Ever had a hydraulic problem keep you awake at night? All day long you've been trying to figure out the problem. Even when you get home you can't switch off. You go to bed and lay awake staring at the ceiling … because your mind is still trying to visualize how the system operates - so you can understand where the fault lies.
This software will end those sleepless nights. Instead of trying to simulate the circuit in your mind's eye - something most of us don't have the processing power to do - you simply open this nifty program on your computer and use your mouse to drag, drop and connect the necessary components… then watch it operate before your eyes. You can slow it down, change settings - even introduce faults and see what happens.
Not only that, using this software is the most effective way to learn how to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and understand how complex hydraulic circuits operate.
It also enables you to check the operation of a circuit - with proposed modifications or specific faults - from the comfort of your home or office, and without any hydraulic hardware or spilling a drop of oil.
Best part: anyone can use it. Even if you're not great with computers, it doesn't matter. To see for yourself just how easy it is to create, animate and print your own hydraulic circuits using this software, watch this two-minute video:
Click on the > button to watch the video. You MAY have to click it twice.
NOTE: There is nothing wrong with your sound - this is a 'silent' movie.
Most of your peers don't even know about this software, let alone have their own copy and know how to use it!
The full version of this software will set you back $1,200. Obviously if we included this version with Advanced Hydraulic Control, very few people could afford it. And besides, when you learnt to ride a bike, you didn't start on a 15-speed racer. All those extra bells and whistles only make it harder for you to learn.
So we worked with the software company and had them develop a special version specifically for our course. And this special version still has more than half the functionality of the full version. So if you could buy it separately (and you can't) - it's easily a $600 value.
Just the capability to draw and print professional looking hydraulic circuits is worth hundreds of dollars. If you bought AutoCAD LT to do this it would cost you $900 - and take you months to learn how to use.
OK, you might not use all the available functionality - beyond that required for the course. So let's be conservative here and call it a $200 value. PLUS - you don't only get the software installation CD. We take you by the hand and guide you through the learning process - to make it as short and painless as possible.
A lot of mystery surrounds proportional hydraulics for many people. And like sequential or on/off hydraulic systems, the most effective way to remove this mystery, and understand how proportional hydraulic systems operate, is to model and simulate actual circuits on your computer.
This is different software for a different job. And out of necessity, it's a little more advanced than its sequential simulation counterpart (after all, this is an advanced hydraulics program). But it's still very user friendly. To see for yourself, watch this two and a half minute video:
Click on the > button to watch the video. You MAY have to click it twice.
NOTE: There is nothing wrong with your sound - this is a 'silent' movie.
Last time I looked, the full version of this software was over $3,000. So once again, if we included this version with Advanced Hydraulic Control, almost no one could afford it! And, like learning to ride on a 15-speed racing bike, all those extra gizzmoes only make it harder for you to get going.
So we worked with the software company and had them develop a special version specifically for our course. And this special version still has at least a third of the functionality of the full version. Making it easily a $1000 value. OK, you may not use all the available functionality - beyond that required for the course. So here again let's be real conservative and call it a $200 value.
PLUS - you don't only get the software installation CD. We take you by the hand and guide you through the learning process - to make it as short and painless as possible.
And most of your peers don't even know this software exists, let alone have their own copy and know how to use it!
To assist and accelerate your learning, you get all the following computer files included on CD-ROM:
These files and templates are invaluable if you do any design work, but even if you don't - they're easily a $100 value.
No doubt about it, Marian Tumarkin is the smartest hydraulics guy I've ever come across. And I wish someone of his calibre was accessible to me when I started in this business 20 years ago. A lucky few have been fortunate enough to be mentored by such an experienced professional and gifted teacher.
"I had the pleasure of being one of Dr Tumarkin's students a couple of years ago at Swinburne University - what a great guy. He's a great teacher… the University lost a real source of expert knowledge when he left."
Lance Shiells
Former student
And you get unlimited access to Dr Tumarkin by email. The enormous benefit of having Marian as your mentor, is when you get stuck on something you just can't figure out, there's no need to sweat. Expert help is at hand.
These days Marian doesn't get out of bed for less than $125 per hour - and I don't blame him. As you progress through this program, it's not unreasonable that you'll prevail upon four hours of his time (maybe more) - making this a $500 value.
As you can see already, Advanced Hydraulic Control would be a bargain at $1,000. But I'm NOT asking anything like that - because I want this knowledge to be affordable for as many as possible. And I'm not finished yet ...
You also get these 4 FREE BONUSES:
This invaluable reference ensures you'll always have any advanced hydraulics formula you need at your fingertips - for both US and Metric units.
If you're still using a calculator to crunch numbers you're a dinosaur. This reference shows you how to unleash the power of Microsoft Excel - a program that lies dormant on most personal computers.
Need to calculate pressure drop or flow rates, plot a horsepower curve for a variable pump or check the heat rejection of a hydraulic system? Excel makes any number crunching task a breeze. And once you start using it, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.
If the very sight of the word 'math' conjures up all sorts of demons for you, don't be alarmed. The majority of Advanced Hydraulic Control is NOT mathematical at all. And in many respects, the software included with the course minimizes the math required for even the more advanced tasks. So think of this as an 'optional extra'.
But like the rest of the course, this IS valuable knowledge - knowledge most of your peers don't have. And we present it using the interactive power of Excel - to make it interesting and fun. Like I said, it's not compulsory BUT you've got it as a ready reference whenever you need it.
PLUS - you also get…
As with all my products, the price of Advanced Hydraulic Control includes FREE shipping to anywhere in the world. So the price is the same no matter where you live.
So ... I bet you're wondering how much all this knowledge, tools and resources is going to cost you…
First, let me remind you of the guarantee that comes with ALL my products:
You take NO RISK whatsoever by evaluating Advanced Hydraulic Control. Because if in the unlikely event you're not absolutely delighted for any reason - or no reason at all, I'll cheerfully refund your entire investment in full. No questions asked.
PLUS - this is a lifetime guarantee. You can return it next month, next year or ten years from now. Crikey… what could be fairer than that?
Advanced hydraulics training at a vocational college could set you back $1,000 (not counting travel expenses and study materials). Then you get the three CDs containing the two simulation software programs, plus fast-start guides, all discussed model files and Excel template files - together a $500 value. Then there's the unlimited question and answer sessions with Dr Marian Tumarkin - another $500 value. Add to this the 3 FREE BONUS references plus FREE shipping - to anywhere in the world… that comes to $2,099.00 total.
You DO NOT need to pay $2099.00 to get on your way to the type of success you read about at the beginning of this letter. I may be crazy, but if you're one of the FIRST 37 to respond before midnight this I'm willing to give all this away to you for only $497.00.
So basically, I just gave you a $1,600.00 discount on what it would cost you if you went out and got all this on your own.
As attractive as this offer is, experience tells me that only about 1 out of every 10 people who receive it will respond. Although that's OK with me from a business standpoint, it still bothers me personally.
You see, I know how much mechanics, technicians, engineers and hydraulic equipment users will benefit from this knowledge. I read their emails; I talk to them on the phone; I meet them personally at seminars, and hundreds each year tell me that:
"A lack of specialist knowledge is our BIGGEST hydraulics problem."
Because of this, I hate the thought of someone not getting this knowledge because of some error or omission in my explanation. Which is why I've racked my brains to come up with possible reasons that might be holding you back.
Here they are:
"This looks too advanced for me"
Sure, this isn't for a rank beginner. But if you've been working on hydraulics for a year or more - or at least have a basic understanding of the behavior of flow and pressure in a hydraulic system and can recognize basic hydraulic symbols - for example: pump, relief valve and cylinder, then this is not beyond you. Remember you proceed at a pace which is comfortable for YOU.
"My computer skills aren't very good"
The very fact that you're reading this tells me you already have the necessary computer skills for this course. We take you by the hand and show what to do with step-by-step instructions, detailed examples and demonstrations. Naturally, your computer skills will improve as you go along - and that's another benefit.
"I prefer to work in Metric rather than US units (or vice versa)"
Everything is in both US and Metric units. So where any calculations are required you get detailed instructions in both US and Metric units. Same goes with the simulation software. A couple of mouse clicks is all it takes to switch from US units to Metric and back again.
"I already have a stack of books about hydraulics"
Advanced Hydraulic Control is NOT a book. It's an interactive, computer-based training system using state-of-the-art simulation software. And besides, you can NEVER have too much information about hydraulics.
"I live beyond Siberia, so shipping will be too expensive"
Worldwide shipping is included, so the price is the same no matter where in the world you live.
"It looks like a great deal, but I'm not sure I can afford it right now"
Let's say for example, you spend 2 hours a week studying this material for 80 weeks - which wouldn't be unreasonable (remember you progress at a pace which suits you). That works out to around six bucks a week. You don't have to get much of a raise to get that back. PLUS - you can spread the investment over three months - with our optional Equalizer Payment Plan.
About those two high school classmates I mentioned at the beginning of this letter: they graduated together and started their careers together. So what made their professional success so different?
Knowledge. Useful knowledge. And its application.
Yours for better hydraulics knowledge,
Brendan Casey
Author and Publisher
P.S. It's important to note that Advanced Hydraulic Control may be tax deductible. Ask your tax advisor.
P.P.S. If you take any hundred people at the start of their working careers and follow them for 40 years until they reach retirement age, here's what you'll find - according to the Social Security Administration: Only 1 will be wealthy; 4 will be financially secure; 5 will continue working, not because they want to, but because they have to; 36 will be dead; and 54 will be dead broke - dependent on their meager Social Security checks, relatives, even charity for a minimum standard of living. That's 5% successful, 95% unsuccessful. Which group do you wanna be in? Well don't wait any longer, respond now, before the deadline for this special offer expires this (if not before).
