And of those who do, most aren't willing to teach it. Why? Because as I've explained already, there's a lot more money to be made by fixing it after it breaks.

And as long as there are hydraulic equipment owners, mechanics, technicians and maintenance people out there who believe hydraulic equipment doesn't require any kind of special attention, this situation won't change. So how did I get to become an expert at this?

Let me start by saying I didn't learn it from a book or through a course at a community college or university. What I know has been accumulated during 26 years working on everything from farm machinery right up to 600-ton hydraulic excavators used in open-cut mining.

And I don't mean yapping about it from the comfort of an air-conditioned office either. I mean hands-on, at-the-coal-face experience. As you know, you can't buy this sort of education.
